In 1970, SVAC was organized and incorporated by a group of local residents to replace the ambulance service provided by the local chapter of the Red Cross. The first ambulance was a 1963 Pontiac station wagon.
The Corps responded to its first call for service on April 27, 1970, and has been in continual service 24/7/365 ever since. That first year there were 23 calls. In 2023 there were 167 calls.
The Corps is licensed by the New York State Department of Health to serve the Town of Lake Pleasant and the Village of Speculator. The Corps also provides mutual aid, as needed, to neighboring agencies.
