SVAC was founded in 1970 by a group of local residents to provide emergency medical services
to the Speculator/Lake Pleasant community with Phil Mulleedy as a founding member and its
first, and longest serving President/Captain. Since responding to the first call on April 27, 1970,
SVAC has been in continual service, providing around-the-clock pre-hospital care seven days a
week, responding to a current average of 150 to 200 calls per year with its 30+ volunteers.
SVAC has outgrown its current garage space with its new ambulance and rescue equipment.
Plans are underway to construct a new 2-bay garage to house its vehicles and equipment. In
the likely event of power outages, the emergency generator will ensure that SVAC will remain
functional to provide quality emergency medical services to the community year round.
“We are incredibly thankful to the Adirondack Foundation for its generous support of this
emergency generator,” said Ken Kurht, SVAC Captain. “This grant ensures we can continue
serving our community effectively during adverse conditions.”
The Adirondack Foundation enhances the lives of people in the Adirondacks through
philanthropy, and Generous Acts is a program that pools gifts from generous donors who love
the Adirondack region and care about its communities. To learn more about Adirondack

SVAC is licensed by the New York State Department of Health and is not just a local service
provider; support is extended through mutual aid to neighboring towns, reinforcing the bonds
that tie our Adirondack communities together. SVAC takes great pride in their ability to
collaborate and provide assistance beyond their immediate service area. SVAC is grateful for
those who generously supports this mission through their support and its volunteers.
